Dr. Taustine returned from the first ASCRS sponsored meeting on laser assisted cataract surgery-LACS. Held in Chicago, attendees came from all over the USA as well as Asia and Australia. Outside of the meetings, some interesting exchanges occurred on how new technology is adopted and paid for around the world.

New Treatments for Diabetic Eye Disease
November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month. Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of legal blindness among adults in the United States. There are new treatments now available for diabetic retinopathy including treatment with the drug Avastin and a procedure called Pan Retinal Photocoagulation.
